July 1, 2026

Happy Canada Day!
On behalf of the Municipal Council and staff, I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone joining us for today's celebration. Whether you are a long-time resident, a new member of our community, or visiting, we are delighted that you have chosen to spend this special day with us.
Canada Day is an opportunity to celebrate our country and the values that bring us together: respect, kindness, inclusion, and a commitment to helping one another. These values are not only reflected in our national identity—they are lived every day in communities like Victoria.
As we celebrate Canada's 159th birthday, it is worth recognizing that the strength of our country begins at the local level. Healthy communities create healthy citizens. They provide places where people can connect, support one another, raise families, build friendships, volunteer their time, and contribute to a shared sense of belonging. It is through strong communities that Canadians experience many of the things that make this country such a wonderful place to live.
Our village is a wonderful example of the important role communities play in shaping the quality of life we enjoy. Whether it is neighbours helping neighbours, volunteers organizing events, local businesses serving residents and visitors, or community groups working to improve our shared spaces, each contribution helps build a stronger and more vibrant community.
Today, as we enjoy the festivities, music, and food, let us take a moment to thank the volunteers, sponsors, local businesses, and organizers whose hard work has made today's celebration possible.
I would also like to offer a special thank you to Marly Anderson and Bridget Patterson, whose leadership, creativity, and dedication have been instrumental in making this event a success.
I should add that many of our activities today are possible through funding from the Government of Canada.
Their commitment reflects the spirit of volunteerism, service, and community that makes Victoria such a special place and helps make Canada an even stronger nation.
As Canadians, we share responsibility for building a future that is welcoming, resilient, and full of opportunity. By continuing to invest in our communities and care for one another, we strengthen not only our village but our country as a whole.
Thank you for being part of today's celebration. I wish you and your families a safe, enjoyable, and memorable Canada Day.
Happy Canada Day!
